石英砂是一種非金屬礦物質，是一種堅硬、耐磨、化學性能穩定的矽酸鹽礦物，其主要礦物成分是SiO2，石英砂的顏色為乳白色、或無色半透明狀，硬度7，石英砂是重要的工業礦物原料，非化學危險品，廣泛用於玻璃、鑄造、陶瓷及耐火材料、冶煉矽鐵、冶金熔劑、冶金、建築、化工、塑料、橡膠、磨料等工業。

普通石英砂，即SiO2≥90—99% Fe2O3≤0.06—0.02%，耐火度1750℃，外觀部分大顆粒，表麵有黃皮包囊。普通石英砂一般是采用天然石英礦石，經破碎，水洗，烘乾，二次篩選而成的一種水處理濾料；該濾料具有：無雜質，無校角，密度大，機械強度高，載污能力線使用周期長的特點，是化學水處理的理想材料。粒度范圍5—220目，可按用戶要求粒度生產。主要用途：冶金，墨碳化矽，玻璃及玻璃制品，搪瓷，鑄鋼，水過濾，泡花堿，化工，噴吵等行業。
　　普通石英砂濾料起到過濾作用，就像水經過砂石滲透到地下一樣，水中的那些懸浮物阻攔下來，主要針對那些細微的懸浮物。石英砂技術己達國內領先水平。
精制品種，又稱酸洗石英砂，SiO2≥99—99.5% Fe2O3≤0.005%，采用優質天然石英砂，經過精心挑選，精細石英砂加工而成。粒度范圍1—0.5mm、0.5—0.1mm、0.1—0.01mm、0.01—0.005mm，可按用戶要求加工。

用途：制造玻璃，耐火材料，冶煉矽鐵，冶金熔劑，陶瓷，研磨材料，鑄造造型石英砂等方麵，在建築中利用其有很強的抗酸性介質浸蝕能力，制取耐酸混凝土及耐酸砂漿。
　　精制石英砂SiO2≥99—99.5% Fe2O3≤0.02—0.015%，精選優質礦石進行復雜加工而成。粒度范圍用5—480目，可按用戶要求生產，外觀白色或結晶狀。主要用途：高級玻璃，玻璃制品，耐火材料，熔煉石類，精密鑄造，砂輪磨材等。

　　石英砂的具體應用表現為：

一、玻璃：平板玻璃、浮法玻璃、玻璃制品（玻璃罐、玻璃瓶、玻璃管等）、光學玻璃、玻璃纖維、玻璃機器、導電玻璃、玻璃佈及防射線特種玻璃等的主要原料。

二、陶瓷及耐火材料：瓷器的胚料和釉料，窯爐用高矽磚、普通矽磚以及碳化矽等的原料。

三、冶金：矽金屬、矽鐵合金和矽鋁合金等的原料或添加劑、熔劑。

四、建築：混凝土、膠凝材料、築路材料、人造大理石、水泥物理性能檢驗材料（即水泥標準砂）等。　五、化工：矽化合物和水玻璃等的原料，硫酸塔的填充物，無定形二氧化矽微粉。

六、機械：鑄造型砂的主要原料，研磨材料（噴砂、硬研磨紙、砂紙、砂佈等）。

七、電子：高純度金屬矽、通訊用光纖等。

八、橡膠、塑料：填料（可提高耐磨性）。

九、塗料：填料（可提高塗料的耐酸性）。
