無煙煤增碳劑系煉鋼用添加劑，品質以固定炭（Fixed Carbon）含量高低為標準，分為特級（Fc≥95%）、一級（Fc≥94%）、二級（Fc≥93%）、三級（Fc≥90%），其中固定炭含量高於95%的特級增炭劑，增炭效果可與FC：98%的石油焦相媲美，其價格還不到石油焦的1/2，是國際上運用較廣泛的石油焦替代品。
無煙煤主要產自寧夏石嘴山，內蒙烏海。成分一般為C：90-93%，S0.3-0.5%。主要用於煉鋼企業使用，寧夏堿溝山的無煙煤，灰分小於7%，硫含量從0.6-2.9%，是不可多得的優質無煙煤。經煤科院北京煤化所，寧夏太西洗煤廠和包頭鋼鐵公司的驗證，寧夏無煙煤增碳劑有如下特點：
1 高變質程度的寧夏無煙煤經過降低灰分和熱處理後，可生產出高質量的煤質煉鋼增碳劑。
2 煤質增碳劑使用粒度為1-8mm，其增碳效果可與石油焦增碳劑相媲美。
3 采用煤質增碳劑煉鋼對鋼的化學成分，夾雜物總量，結晶度，晶組織的力學性能沒有影響，鋼的質量合格率為100%。
4 使用煤質增碳劑代替石油焦增碳劑煉鋼增碳，可以降低企業成本，提高企業經濟效益。
同樣的化學成分，采用不同的熔煉工藝、不同配料和配料比，鐵液的冶金質量完全不同。獲得好的滲碳效果，電爐采用的是增碳技術，沖天爐采用的是高溫熔煉技術。增碳劑對熔煉的影響主要有三方麵。
1.鐵液增碳技術，在熔煉過程中特別是電爐熔煉，可以增加石墨晶核。沖天爐熔煉中加入碳化矽還能增加鐵液的長效石墨晶核，同時減少鐵液氧化。
2.增碳是防止或減輕收縮傾向最好的措施。由於鐵液凝固過程中的具有石墨化膨脹的作用，因此良好的石墨化會減少鐵液的收縮傾向。
3. 在高的碳量條件下，為獲得高強度的灰鑄鐵鑄件，熔煉過程采用全廢鋼加增碳劑的工藝，使鐵液更加純凈，生產的鑄件材料性能高。
