蓄熱球外形呈球狀，具有重燒線收縮率低、高溫荷重軟化溫度高、耐腐蝕、強度高、蓄放熱量大、熱震穩定性好、導熱性能好、熱膨脹系數小等顯著特點，是優良的耐火材料。
眾多蓄熱球將氣流分割成很小流股，氣流在蓄熱體中流過時，形成強烈的紊流，有效的沖破瞭蓄熱體表麵的附麵層，又由於球徑很小，傳導半徑小、熱阻小、密度高、導熱性好，故可實現蓄熱式燒嘴頻繁且快速換向的要求。蓄熱球可利用20~30次/h的換向，高溫煙氣流經蓄熱體床層後內便可將煙氣降至130℃左右排放。高溫煤氣和空氣流經蓄熱體在相同路徑內即可分別預熱到僅比煙氣溫度低100℃左右，溫度效率高達90%以上。

蓄熱球適用於氣體及非氣體燃料工業爐的蓄熱球燃燒系統選用，特別適用於鋼鐵行業蓄熱式加熱爐、蓄熱式鋼包烘烤器、空分行業空氣分離設備蓄熱器、有色金屬行業蓄熱式熔煉爐，蓄熱球也可用在大型鍛造廠蓄熱式臺車爐、蓄熱式電鍋爐、蓄熱式焚化爐等行業做蓄熱載體。
