麥飯石
麥飯石是一種珍貴的藥石資源。近年來，由於它的多種特異功能，已引起越來越多的人們的重視，掀起瞭一股麥飯石熱。不過，麥飯石早已被我國古人所發現。據《宋圖經》、《本草綱目》等古籍記載，具有神奇療效的麥飯石始見於我國五嶽之一的嵩山。因其顏色呈黃白色，如豆、如米，其集合體狀如一團麥飯而得名。
麥飯石的地質特征
麥飯石是一種具有多種特異保健功能的、由次火山－火山巖（中性巖漿巖）經過蝕變、風化作用而形成的天然藥物礦石。它含有多種對人體健康有益的礦物質和微量元素；具有生物活性、吸附性、溶出性和礦化性以及水質調節性等多種獨有的特性；對生物無毒無害，其放射性同位素和有害元素的含量，均在地殼中該元素的豐度以下。因此，麥飯石被譽為珍貴的藥石資源和人類的天然礦物質營養源。
生成麥飯石的原來的巖石，稱為麥飯石的原巖。麥飯石是由其原巖經過蝕變、風化作用而形成的。例如，河南嵩山的麻石型和花崗型麥飯石，均為其原巖的風化產物。
麥飯石原巖屬於鈣堿性系列的次火山－火山巖（中性巖漿巖），是巖漿結晶分異作用晚期的產物。因此，麥飯石產於巖漿活動區地表或接近地表的次火山－火山巖中。
關於麥飯石的地質特征，有必要強調以下兩點：
1、麥飯石之所以具有祛病延年的神奇功能，主要原因之一是它的原巖含有多種有益於人體健康的、可利用的微量元素。在巖漿結晶分異作用的晚期，這些有益的微量元素富集於麥飯石原巖的隱晶質或玻璃質基質中。在水中，其礦物質和微量元素易於溶出，而為人體或生物所吸收。因此，具有全晶質結構的、放射性同位素和有害元素含量高的次火山－火山巖，均不宜作為保健藥石。
2、在麥飯石原巖中，有益元素還以類質同像混入物的形式，賦存於斜長石和鉀長石的晶格裡。當麥飯石原巖遭受蝕變、風化作用而形成麥飯石時，其中的長石類礦物部分或全部地被高嶺石等粘土礦物所取代。於是，一方麵，賦存於長石類礦物晶格裡的有益微量元素，因長石類礦物晶格破壞而析離出來，由原先的不可溶狀態轉變為可溶狀態，使麥飯石具有溶出性和礦化性，從而使其中的有益元素能夠被人體所攝取；另一方麵，那些取代長石類礦物的粘土礦物，大多數具有吸附性，進入人體後能吸附人體中的有毒物質，從而起到排毒健身的作用。因此，我們說麥飯石是由其原巖經過蝕變、風化作用而形成的。那種盲目地在未經蝕變、風化作用的新鮮次火山－火山巖巖體上取樣化驗，以為隻要微量元素及其含量達到要求，就算是找到瞭麥飯石的做法和看法，都是錯誤的。
1）吸附力強
所謂吸附乃是具有多孔性、巨大表麵積的固體全部溶化作用，而發生化學的、物理的反應。麥飯石作為中藥對皮膚病，特別是拔膿，效果很好。麥飯石是多孔性的，吸附能力很強，因其主要成分為二氧化矽、氧化鋁從這點來考慮，是容易理解的。 在前麵介紹的麥飯石微細粉末的電子顯微鏡照相中，已確認是海綿狀多孔性的，是其最大的原因。也就是說，因多孔性，那麼表麵就非常大，由於長石部分風化，成高嶺土狀等，故始終保持很強的吸附作用、交換作用。
（2）溶出礦物質
礦物質是人體不可缺少的微量元素，它們對維持生命的飲料水是非常重要的，這一事實隨著近年來對礦物質的研究，已逐漸被人們所認識。
在飲料水中含有適量的礦物質，可以改善水質，也有抑制細菌和吸附有機物質的作用。 因此，當將麥飯石投入水中時，可將水中的遊離氯和雜質、有機物、雜菌等吸附、分解，而供給水中以礦物質。因此，能防止水腐敗，得到優質水。靜菌狀態：細菌類的活動被抑制，處於靜止狀態。所謂制菌作用是使細菌類的增殖停止的作用。

註：由上表可以清楚地看到，它能吸附略微過多的Mg（亦即溶出少），而對鐵、錳等也表現出同樣的現象。從這一事實來看，麥飯石在水中的緩沖作用就可以理解瞭。
（4）使水中溶解氧量豐富
麥飯石對需氧生物體能起到非常有效的作用。從麥飯石的這種作用來看，它與我們的日常生活和身體機能調節有密切的關系。據研究表明，麥飯石可能與生命起源有關。
（5）麥飯石對水的凈化作用
麥飯石是一種中性堿半火成巖，接近於火山巖。麥飯石中包含的天然礦物質易於釋放從麥飯石上無數的小孔中釋放出氧。通過吸收漂白粉和其它有毒物質凈化水。麥飯石中散發出的鈣、鐵、鈉等礦物質可改良飲用水。通過自來水試驗可以看出麥飯石清除漂白粉的功能 自來水 20分鐘後 40分鐘後 60分鐘後 80分鐘後 100分鐘後。0.5ppm 0.3ppm 0.2ppm 0.1ppm 0.05ppm 已探測不到
（6）麥飯石用於飼料的效用
