光強魔鏡由一個玻璃泡,底座組成，裡麵懸掛著四個葉片。玻璃泡內為真空。

當光線照射到光強魔鏡時，其內的葉片就會旋轉起來，葉片的旋轉速度和光線的強度成正比。

當紅外燈直接照射光強魔鏡時，光強魔鏡的葉片會飛快的旋轉。

當太陽膜，隔熱玻璃阻擋光線的時候，葉片的旋轉速度會明顯降下來。
