石榴石砂系屬矽酸鹽類礦物，經過水力精心篩選，機械加工，篩選分級等方法制成的研磨材料，主要用於研磨玻璃制品制品，工業除銹及水切割等。（（1）對矽片、光學鏡頭、精密機器機表、拋光玻殼、玻璃器皿、陶瓷石料、皮革、 塑料、金屬機件能提高光潔度,（2）可噴砂除銹，是制造砂輪、油石、砂佈、砂紙的必須原料；（3）可作為修築高速公路路麵、飛機跑道、耐磨橡膠、防滑油漆等尚佳的耐磨地坪材料；（4）可作化工、石油、制藥、水處理過濾的介質；（5）對電鍍、核污染的防護具有良好的效果； （6）是水切割行業優質的配

砂。

石榴石濾料又名“玉砂”或“天然金剛砂”，具有較強的硬度和很好的耐酸耐堿性，是一種島狀結構的鋁（鈣）矽酸鹽，它色多優美，目前，經高純磁選出的有灰、紅、綠、白等多種染色體，是國外當前新開發的立體噴墻塗料，還是玻殼廠唯一能做彩殼噴砂耐磨料，由於它內部化學分子多，化學穩定性好等特點。故被當作新型耐磨凈水濾料。
